Flashback
Flashback to April 2018 and I was on the hunt for the perfect wedding dress. I scoured the internet to find the best wedding dress shops in Glasgow, and stumbled across Eleganza Sposa. After looking on their website, I booked an appointment immediately.
After watching countless Rom Coms over the years, I had a slight expectation of what the experience would be like. I pictured elegance, lustrous flowing fabrics , Jo Malone scents gracing the air and prosecco popping. My encounter was nothing short of this. Despite trying on a fair few dresses, I was unable to make a decision there and then.
Although I hate to say it, I did stray from Eleganza for a mere moment, just to keep my options open. I tried on a few dresses in a wedding dress shop I shall not name, and to my horror, the assistant (in the dressing room I might add), decided to lecture me on my decision to take time to think. She shamed me because I had tried on too many dresses because "the average bride only tries on 3 before she makes her decision." Her arrogance was shocking and I left the shop in shock. I'm annoyed that I never called her out on her rudeness there and then, but then again I did not want to stoop to her level.
Determined not to let another shop assistant make me feel guilty for trying on wedding dresses, I decided to head back to the safety and comfort of Eleganza to try on some new wedding dress styles.
The experience I had second time round, was just as delightful as the first, if not more. I slipped into a romantic style, lace Essence of Australia dress. I knew instantly that this was the dress and so did my mother.
April 2022
Fast forward to April 2022. It's been 5 months since I started my small business Velvet Rose Designs, with the idea of creating showstopping paper flower wall backdrops for weddings and events. A lot has changed during these months including moving house. With space no longer being an issue, I was able to develop my original paper flowers to create something bigger, better and more luxurious.
Eleganza Sposa
I've always admired Eleganza Sposa, and despite no longer requiring a wedding dress, my guilty pleasure is watching their social media posts. I knew in my heart that I could create something for them that would compliment the store aesthetic, and also allow new brides to bask in the "I've said yes to the dress" glory. I decided to approach them to see if they would be interested in featuring a wall of mine in their store. To my luck, they were planning an Essence of Australia Trunk Show to showcase new wedding dress designs. After discussing their expectations with a member of their events management team, it was time to get to work.
Three weeks of cutting, folding and sculpting and the Esmerelda wall was created. The paper flower wall as used as a beautiful backdrop for brides to take photos with during their visit to Eleganza Sposa, and more importantly when they said "yes to the dress". The feedback I had from the event was amazing and the exposure I received was fantastic. I hope to work with them again to create more magical paper flower backdrops.
The Esmerelda Wall
The Esmerelda wall is now available for hire in Glasgow and the surrounding areas. Keep your eyes peeled as you might recognise this masterpiece at your next bridal shower, birthday or wedding event.
