Giant Paper Flowers Materials

One of the questions I'm asked most often is, "What materials do you use to make your paper flowers?" Over the years, I've tested lots of different products, but I've found a few favourites that I return to time and time again because they're reliable, durable, and help create beautiful results.
Italian Crepe Paper
The star of any paper flower project is, of course, the paper itself. My absolute favourite is 180g Italian crepe paper by Cartotecnica Rossi, which I purchase from Floristry Warehouse (a UK based supplier.)
Italian crepe paper has the perfect amount of stretch, making it ideal for shaping realistic petals and leaves. It holds its form beautifully and comes in a fantastic range of colours, allowing me to create everything from delicate roses to bold statement blooms. The quality is excellent and makes a huge difference to the finished flower.

Stems
For flower stems, I use PEX-AL-PEX piping. Depending on the size and style of flower I'm creating, I typically choose 25mm pipe, but for lighter heads you could use 20mm.
I love using PEX-AL-PEX because it's sturdy yet flexible enough to shape when needed. It provides the strength required for large-scale flowers while still allowing me to achieve elegant, natural-looking stems.

Bases
When I need to create a solid, freestanding flower display, I use Bostik Rapid Setting Cement.
This product sets quickly, making the construction process much more efficient. It creates a strong and stable base that securely holds the stem in place, giving me confidence that the finished piece will remain upright and secure.
For the base mould, I use a plastic terracotta gardening saucer, measuring 27.7cm in diameter.
These saucers are practical, attractive, and provide the perfect size for supporting my flower displays. They complement a variety of styles and settings while helping to create a neat and professional finish.

Petals
To help strengthen and support my petals, I sometimes use flower wire. I use a pack from The Range.
Adding wire to petals gives them extra structure and allows me to shape and position them exactly how I want. This is especially useful for larger flowers, where petals need additional support to maintain their shape and create a more realistic appearance.
The wire is easy to work with, lightweight, and flexible enough to achieve natural curves and movement while still providing the strength needed for long-lasting designs. It's a simple addition that makes a big difference to the overall finish and durability of the flower.

Why These Supplies Work for Me
When creating giant paper flowers, having reliable materials makes all the difference. These are the products I trust because they consistently deliver great results and help me create flowers that are both beautiful and durable.
Whether you're just starting your paper flower journey or looking to refine your techniques, investing in quality materials can make the process easier and the finished flowers even more impressive.
